Schedule and format

So, how does it work!?

Well, we will be hosting 3 rounds of racing before going into the final. To get into each of these rounds you need to finish high-up in the hotlap standings which happen before each race. The hotlaps last for around a week and if you make it within the required number you will qualify for the weekend showdown of this round. These races are live-broadcasted and officiated, so your time to shine! Top 10 of these Weekend Showdowns qualify for the rFactor 2 Grand Final on the 28th of October.

18th – 28th September: Round 1 McLaren MP4/8 on Silverstone GP – Top 30 qualify for Weekend Showdown 30th September

1st – 12th October: Round 2 McLaren M23 on Zandvoort – Top 30 qualify for Weekend Showdown 14th October

15th – 19th October: Round 3 McLaren MP4/13 on Indianapolis GP – Top 30 qualify for Weekend Showdown 21st October

28th October Round 4 (Final) – Winner qualifiers for McLaren Shadow Project Final

Winning Round 4 (the rFactor 2 McLaren Shadow final) secures you a spot in the McLaren Shadow Project Final later this year, and with this having a shot at becoming part of their esports team.  If you are already qualified as a top 10 entrant to the final round, your time from other time trials will not be included in the results.

If not, there are a few steps required to get going.

Step 1

Firstly create a Steam account, download and install rFactor 2 here http://store.steampowered.com/app/365960/rFactor_2/ – If you don´t own rFactor 2 yet or want to have a look first, you can find our free demo here, which also gives you access to the first round of the competition: https://store.steampowered.com/app/400330/rFactor_2_Demo/

See here for a guide on what to do with your install

Step 2

You are ready to go! Click here to enter the McLaren Shadow competition.

Log into our competition system with your Steam account. Just click on the “Sign In” and follow the steps according to steam.

After that, you can subscribe to the current event.

If you don´t have an account on our competition system yet, you will need to fill in those details and create one.

After you’ve done this, it´s time to sign up for the Shadow event.

Make sure you read the terms & conditions.

The next step shows you the current session running, info about the event etc.

On the bottom left you find your quick way onto hotlap servers to create your fastest laptime on track.

Before you hit “join session”, make sure you got Steam open, rFactor 2 installed, as well as the needed content for that round.

You will likely see a pop-up looking similar to this, make sure to Open Steam Client Bootstrapper here.

Steam will then notify you about joining the server. This won’t pop up into to foreground so you might need to click on your steam window to see and accept it.

Rules

Right just some hotlap/time trial rules, we will be reviewing all laps that qualify in the top-30 and performing spot-checks, those that do not observe correct driving may have their lap removed or will be disqualified (DQ)

  • Observe the track limits at all times, if we observe track cutting that is unrealistic with all wheels in an off-track position the lap will be invalidated
  • You can use the green run-off at Stowe if the game allows it – if you are outside of this area with all four wheels your lap will be DQ’d
  • Do not use off-tracks prior to the lap starting to gain speed
  • Do not use external software to modify performance
  • Respect your competitors

Good Luck!
